Mirabeau may have been bumped at the start of the British EBF £100,000 Final but it was smooth sailing at the finish as the 8-1 shot pulled clear to score under Danny Tudhope.

The juvenile son of Territories broke his maiden at Brighton last month and continued his progression with a length-and-a-quarter victory over Stratusnine, despite colliding with Mr Fantastic coming out of the stalls.

It was a second success in three starts for Mirabeau and trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis hopes he can step up in class next season.

"That was a good performance and we've always liked him," he said. "We thought he'd win first time at Newbury and he was the last off the bridle. He scoped badly afterwards and took a long time to come 100 per cent.

"He came on for his win at Brighton, he likes to get his toe in and he stays well. We'll probably put him away now and we hope he can make his mark in black-type company next year."

The race was held up briefly when favourite Amiloc, who was unbeaten in two starts, played up at the start. The Ralph Beckett-trained gelding was withdrawn before the contest got underway.

More for Minstrel

Ed Bethell added another win to his career-high season when Minstrel Knight took the honours in the 1m6f heritage handicap.

The three-year-old drifted across the track in the home straight but held on determinedly to claim his second win on the bounce under Aidan Keeley.

The success brought Bethell's tally for the year to 52 winners, having already surpassed his previous best of 43 winners last year.
