It just had to be here. There was no more fitting place for Franny Norton to bring the curtain down on his 36-year career in the saddle than at his beloved Chester.
The 54-year-old has ridden more winners at this track than any other modern-day jockey – and by some margin too – so where better to get a much-deserved send-off.
Going into the last day of a career which began with a first ride back in 1988, Norton had ridden double the amount of the next best jockey on the Roodee – but could he muster another winner or two to go out on a high?
