'We're flying along' - Brian Ellison continues red-hot form as track specialist strikes again

Brian Ellison: "Why go from 14 to 12 when there's plenty of room there? It doesn't seem logical"

Brian Ellison's terrific form continued when The Dancing Poet waltzed to another course success in the 1m6f handicap for amateur jockeys.

The eight-year-old landed a seventh track win there, six of those coming on the Flat, with his three-and-a-half length triumph under Matt Brown. It took Ellison's strike-rate in the last fortnight to a red-hot 37 per cent before his runners on Tuesday evening.

"We're flying along," the trainer said. "The horses look really good on the gallops, so it's great they're doing it on the track too. He's a superstar and just loves it around here. We gave him a good holiday last year and that seems to have done the trick. I think we'll keep him to races like these ones for amateurs."

It also continued Brown's terrific year in the saddle and took his strike-rate in 2024 to 33 per cent.

Ellison added: "Matt gave him a super ride, rides really well and he's been improving all year. He's had three seconds as well this year too, but these two get along super well."

Morris makes hay

Luke Morris enjoyed his first visit to the track this year with a double, headlined by Keldeo's win in the 5f handicap.

He gave Morris a breakthrough first success for trainer Ollie Pears, while the rider also scored on Scarboroughwarning for boss Sir Mark Prescott in the 6f novice stakes.

Pears also doubled up when Half Moon Rising took the 7f handicap.
