Remastered, runner-up in the 2022 Coral Gold Cup, got back to winning ways with a thrilling success in the Desert Orchid Silver Cup.

The David Pipe-trained veteran had been pulled up on four of his five starts since scoring at Kempton in December 2022 but survived a stewards’ enquiry to score by a short head from Deise Aba in the 3m2½f handicap chase. Winning rider Jack Tudor doubled up in the 2m4f novice handicap chase on Camino Rocio.

“We were very close to retiring him,” Pipe told Racing TV. “We thought it was worth giving him one more go.

“He’s still working at home like he has done five years ago. It was a fantastic result and great that two 11-year-olds were all out at the finish.”

The Gold Cup-winning silks of Brocade Racing were also carried to success by bloodstock agent Tom Malone on Alexei in a charity race run in memory of Keagan Kirkby, a key member of Paul Nicholls' stable staff who died in a point-to-point fall at the age of 25 in February.

Malone has raised over £35,000 for Racing Welfare and the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Course specialist

Numitor maintained his perfect track record in the 2m4f veterans’ handicap chase. The £25,000 event was a qualifier for the final at Haydock, which the ten-year-old won last season.

He also gave in-form trainer Heather Main her first jumps winner of the campaign.

Off the mark

Getalead provided trainer Kevin Pickard with his first winner under rules in the 1m7f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle.
