Rebecca Menzies was already gearing up for an exciting jumps season despite winning the 5f handicap with Kyber Crystal.

Kaiya Fraser rode the 4-1 winner, who was also on the scoresheet last month, and the five-year-old could be kept busy through the final stages of the Flat campaign.

The success was a 23rd of the Flat season for Menzies, leaving her nine behind her record tally set in the last two seasons. She has had six winners over jumps in the first four months of the campaign.

"We kept it simple and got the job done," Menzies told Racing TV. "She has plenty of form on soft ground, so hopefully we should have some fun with her through the autumn. We ran at Newcastle too, and she's one we can have some fun with."

Menzies is particularly keen on her team of novice hurdlers for the months to come.

She added: "We won't start to really get rolling until the second or third week in October, but it's nice to get out with the jumping people. We've got a really exciting bunch this year – a lot of novice hurdlers and four- and five-year-olds.

"We spent quite a few quid, so hopefully we should be at the Saturday meetings throughout the year as well as the trusty Sedgefield and Catterick. We want to get to that next level, and the new gallop has made a massive difference; it's a mile woodchip. The Flat horses have thrived off it and the jumpers are really enjoying it."
