'We thought we might even lose him' - Jail No Bail defies absence to form part of Sam Twiston-Davies treble
Jail No Bail made the perfect return from a 389-day absence in the 2m4½f maiden hurdle for his overjoyed connections, who were worried he would not survive his injury-enforced layoff.
The Anthony Honeyball-trained seven-year-old had not been seen since finishing third at Wincanton in November last year, but enjoyed a fine comeback when scoring by half a length under Sam Twiston-Davies. The winning co-owner, Bryan Drew, was fearful for Jail No Bail's life while he was off the track.
Drew told Sky Sports Racing: "He's been unlucky with injuries. He had a couple of niggles and then he broke a fetlock last year and we thought we might even lose him at one point.
"He's come through all of that and Anthony has done a great job of getting him back. We know there's ability there and that's why we kept on going with him. We're worried about how much time we have as he's fragile so we'll go chasing now."
Honeyball and Twiston-Davies also successfully teamed up with Easy Love in the mares' bumper. She secured the jockey a treble as he also struck on I Shut That D'Or in the 2m3½f handicap chase.
Off the cold list
Tabitha Worsley took her name off the cold jockeys' list with a first winner since July on Eliza Dolittle in the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.
Victory was extra special for Worsley as her father, Graham, flew in from Adelaide, Australia to watch her. He told Sky Sports Racing: "She's my little baby, I'm so proud of her. She rode fantastically."
