'We all adore him' - Williams stalwart Agrapart returns to winning ways
Agrapart rolled back the years to record his first success since May 2019 under a well-timed ride by conditional Chester Williams.
The ten-year-old is trained by the jockey's mother Jane Williams, whose daughter Lizzie Kelly was on when Agrapart won the 2017 Relkeel Hurdle and the Cleeve Hurdle the following season.
Agrapart, who was sent off at 18-1, was second behind the favourite Doyen Breed jumping the final flight in the 3m2f handicap hurdle, but kept on powerfully in the straight to take the lead and win by a head.
"He's done a huge amount for my family because he won a lot of big races under my daughter Lizzie and he's come back at the age of ten to win a really nice race today," said the winning trainer.
"Chester gave him a well-timed, intelligent ride and Agrapart was a willing partner. He had a horrible race at Exeter last time and it's fabulous to see an older horse bounce back – we all adore him. He was determined to win and beat the young whippersnappers."
Long journey pays off
Christian Williams got off the mark with his first runner at the track when Kitty's Light held on to win the 3m2f handicap chase by a neck.
The five-year-old made the 380-mile journey from the trainer's base in the Vale of Glamorgan worthwhile when winning by a neck. It was also a first win at the track for conditional jockey Jack Tudor.
