There was an extremely sad end to the West Wales National, as The Bay Oak collapsed and died just moments after winning the big race of the day.

The eight-year-old suffered a suspected heart attack on the walk back to the winner's enclosure, leaving connections in tears.

The Bay Oak had just delivered a career-best performance, looking the winner a long way out as he jumped impeccably before sprinting away after the last to take the £15,600 first prize by four lengths from Cogry.
