Tom Bellamy and Kim Bailey partnership flourishing as pair land 31-1 treble
Tom Bellamy’s flourishing association with Kim Bailey continued when a first hurdling success for The Kemble Brewery completed a 31-1 treble for the burgeoning combination.
Bellamy, who is getting more opportunities for Bailey after the trainer’s former stable jockey David Bass decided to go freelance in the summer, steered chasing debutant Law Of Supply to victory in the opening race, the 2m7f handicap chase.
"Andrew Lay asked me two years ago to buy a horse to go chasing and shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer and died,” said Bailey. “Law Of Supply runs in his legacy and I said he'd never do anything until he goes over fences. He's won really impressively.”
Bellamy helped £150,000 purchase Clondaw General make a successful rules debut in the 2m7f novice hurdle before the 30-year-old, first-choice jockey for Emma Lavelle and David Dennis, made it six wins from 12 rides for Bailey this season on The Kemble Brewery in the 2m novice hurdle.
Bailey, who was speaking at Wetherby where his Hurlerontheditch finished second, said: "The Kemble Brewery has always been a good horse.
“He won his two bumpers but he sliced into the back of his tendon when he ran at Cheltenham and was within millimetres of not being with us. His owners run a pub in Cheltenham and they've been very patient."
Tormund on top
Cheltenham Festival hero Global Citizen and three-time Grade 1 winner Thyme Hill feature on the roll of honour for the bumper which this year went to Tormund Giantsbane for Dan and Harry Skelton.
