The Wallpark makes it two from two at Galway for Gordon Elliott with connections dreaming of Cheltenham
The Wallpark landed the Deacy Gilligan Hurdle in authoritative style under Jack Kennedy for trainer Gordon Elliott and connections are dreaming of a tilt at the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.
The six-year-old landed a lucrative handicap at the Galway festival last month and showed his liking for Ballybrit again when following up. Three runners went to post after Fakir D'Oudairies and French Dynamite were withdrawn due to the going, and Kennedy went to the lead after flagfall on board the 5-6 favourite.
He was soon headed by Kings Hill but travelled comfortably in second throughout before taking control after the second-last. He was four lengths clear at the line.
Elliott told Racing TV: "It wasn't ideal being in front but we couldn't let it turn into a sprint because he stays really well and Jack gave him a clever ride. His last two jumps were probably his best but he's a bit clumsy and has his own way of doing it. He has a good engine.
"He will be a nice staying chaser down the road but we'll probably try and qualify him for the Pertemps now. We'll go to Cheltenham in October for a qualifier and dream of going back for something like that."
Itsalladream lasts home
Paul Gilligan saddled a winner at his local track when Itsalladream landed the 2m½f maiden hurdle for the trainer's son Jack at odds of 12-1.
The five-year-old was getting off the mark at the third attempt having been placed in maiden hurdles at Roscommon and Killarney. He stayed on admirably to beat Oh So Charming by half a length.
