The Trickster defied a 7lb penalty to follow up last month’s successful debut at Beverley in the 1m1f novice.

The son of Persian King extended his perfect record for John and Sean Quinn since being bought for €150,000 at the Arqana breeze-up sale in May.

“If you want a nice horse like him, you have to pay for them nowadays,” John Quinn told Racing TV. “He’s not a dear horse now.

“We didn’t race him through the summer as we felt he needed a bit of time. He battled well at Beverley from an outside draw, and today he put his head down again. He should make into a nice staying horse.”

The Trickster completed an across-the-card treble for the Quinns, whose Phoenix Of Dreams landed the opening 6f maiden shortly before stablemate Ann Terry also got off the mark in a three-runner event at Leicester.

Phoenix Of Dreams had made the frame on his first five starts before beating just two of his ten rivals last time.

“He’s been very consistent all summer and had a little blip at Chester, but everyone and every horse can have an off day," said Quinn, whose Redcar winners were both partnered by Jason Hart. "It was nice for him to get his head in front."

Hart completed a treble of his own when helping Thunder Roar justify odds-on favouritism in the feature mile handicap for trainers Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood.

Peate pounces

Jonny Peate rode the winner of the 6f apprentice handicap the last time it was staged in 2022 and repeated the feat on the Michael Dods-trained Deputy.
