'The horses continue to turn up' - Pauling's delight as red-hot form continues
Saturday: Warwick
Ben Pauling is hoping momentum can continue to build after he landed a double on the card to extend his career-best campaign.
The Gloucestershire-based trainer notched his 52nd and 53rd victories of the season thanks to Unit Sixtyfour and Mister Watson.
He said: "We couldn't be happier with how things are going. The horses continue to turn up for us and although we'll have a quieter January with all the flu jabs, we want to pick up from where we left off towards the end of the month.
"We want to carry on rolling until the end of the season, but it's been great and we’re really enjoying ourselves."
Unit Sixtyfour's 12-length victory in the 2m handicap chase ended a run of six races without success, and Pauling was pleased he was able to break his maiden.
He said: "We kept thinking he was well handicapped, but he hasn't produced the last twice even though he's been running well.
"The drop in trip and the change in the ground probably did the trick for him, so it was good to see him get over the line."
Pauling and Lorcan Williams teamed up to complete the brace when Mister Watson got off the mark over fences in the 2m4f handicap chase.
The trainer added: "It turned into a bit of a slog, so that probably played to his strengths as he's a proper mudlark."
Epic finale
The Kings Writ produced arguably the finish of the day as the Kayley Woollacott-trained 11-year-old rallied inside the final half-furlong under Ben Godfrey to edge out favourite Midnight Moss by a nose in the 3m veterans' handicap chase.
