The day belongs to Williams but what about this Jonbon rumour, Nicky?
An hour or so before we started talking about Christian Williams' one-two at Kempton, Nicky Henderson was talking about the horses he hopes might give him a one-two at Cheltenham. First, though, we had to check all was well with one of the two.
The thing is, there was a rumour. At this time of year there often is. Not for the first time this week a leading festival fancy had been a notable betting exchange drifter. For a while on Saturday morning Betfair customers could back Jonbon to win the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle at around 10-1. Did that mean something was wrong with the horse? Was a defection announcement imminent? Was he heading instead to the Ballymore?
"They've all asked me today and I've told them all the same – go and ask AP," said a friendly but exasperated Henderson. "I've had ten people ask me since I came through the door. Does it surprise me? No. It's the betting boys just playing games, isn't it?
