The future looks bright for Beechwood after the Paddy Twomey-trained filly proved a cut above her rivals in the Listed Ardilaun Hotel Irish EBF Oyster Stakes on just her third run for the stable.

Having finished second in a mile conditions race at Killarney and again in a Sligo handicap off a mark of 93, the step up to 1m4f proved to be the making of this daughter of Le Havre.

Travelling like a dream for Billy Lee, she got to the front early in the straight and quickened clear before scoring by four and a quarter lengths. British raider Rouge Sellier finished a creditable second for Sir Mark Prescott and Colin Keane, while the once-raced Romzina finished a good third having raced keenly in front.

Twomey said: "I was happy coming here that she was in good form and I hoped she would run a good race.

"It might have been a bit nuts starting her off over a mile in a winner's race, but she has gone a mile, then a mile and a quarter at Sligo and now a mile and a half. She's growing in confidence and is not doing a whole lot between her races.

"There's every chance she will stay in training because she has improved again. That's a career-best performance at the end of her four-year-old season and you would imagine there's more to give.

"She's in the Listed race at Gowran later in the month, but I wouldn't really look at going back in trip after a performance like that. She should be a filly for races like the Munster Oaks and Give Thanks Stakes next season."

Quartz doubles up

The Mark Fahey-trained Clear Quartz was unlucky not to win twice at the festival meeting here, but he gained some recompense by winning the 1m½f rated event under Ronan Whelan in a race that almost went wrong. He was slowly away and then had to wait for a gap in the straight before getting up for a half-length win.

Another festival winner to follow up was the Danny Howard-trained Sylkie, who came from last to first under Colin Keane to win the the 1m½f three-year-old handicap.
