'That was very, very special' - Daryl Jacob partners 1,000th winner as Ottizzini makes all for superb success
Daryl Jacob rode his 1,000th jump winner in Britain, Ireland and France as Ottizzini made all and jumped well for a bold victory in the 3m½f handicap hurdle.
The multiple Grade 1-winning jockey returned from injury only at the beginning of last month, when he hinted that this season could be his last, and he ticked off the major milestone with a nine-length success over Faithfulflyer.
"That was very, very special," Jacob told Racing TV. "It's a big day. I've been waiting on it since the backend of last year, but it's nice to get it done."
Ottizzini is trained by one of the rider's newer supporters in County Antrim handler Stuart Crawford, who also trains for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede. The pair's 'double green' outfit also retain Jacob's services.
Of the seven-year-old mare, the jockey said: "She was fantastic. I just went out there and rode her off the cusp and she really enjoyed it. She's jumped great and travelled great. She's very honest and very solid.
"We schooled her last week over fences and she was good there, so I'd imagine she'll have a go over them at some point."
Rhino rules on chasing debut
White Rhino landed his sixth win and first over fences when beating Donny Boy by two lengths in the 2m4½f handicap chase under Henry Brooke for joint-trainers Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.
His progress over hurdles last term resulted in a win off a mark of 123 at Cheltenham in December, and he should be capable of winning more races in this new sphere over the winter.
It was a double for Brooke, Greenall and Guerriero after the success of Pat's Dream in the earlier 2m5½f handicap chase.
