No matter the talent, the pressure is on when you make your debut for a new outfit. Everyone knows you were good for them. Will you do it for us?

Sometimes the question is answered quickly with an emphatic yes. Think of prolific striker Jimmy Greaves, who scored on his first appearance for each of his four club signs and also the first time he pulled on an England shirt.

Sometimes things go less well. Think of centre-half Jonathan Woodgate, who moved to Real Madrid for £13.4million and marked his debut at the Bernabeu by scoring an own goal and then getting sent off.

Henry de Bromhead will know exactly how both felt after experiencing both ends of the sporting spectrum in 24 hours with horses transferred to him by owners Cheveley Park after the suspension of Gordon Elliott just before Cheltenham.

Triumph Hurdle: full result and race replay

Supposed festival banker Envoi Allen had his 'Woody' moment as he fell at the fourth fence in the Marsh Novices' Chase on Thursday. But exactly a day later Quilixios did a 'Greavesie' and hit the back of the net with a fine victory in the JCB Triumph Hurdle under Rachael Blackmore.

In both betting and public perception, Quilixios had appeared the Irish second string behind former stablemate Zanahiyr in the four-year-old hurdlers' championship, despite winning all his four starts, including the Grade 1 Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Yet he emerged as the unquestionable number one in the race itself, moving easily into the lead just before the second-last flight and scoring by a ready three and a quarter lengths from Adagio. Zanahiyr was only fourth.

De Bromhead, welcoming back his fourth Grade 1 winner of the week and fifth winner overall, reflected on his new recruits' contrasting starts.

"Envoi Allen just ran a little bit keen," he said. "They are different types of horses, he had settled in well, but unfortunately it was a novice chase and he just got it wrong. This guy jumped well and did everything right.

"He's a lovely horse, obviously we've only just got him. He's gorgeous and I'm delighted for the Thompsons and Cheveley Park, they're great supporters of ours.

"Rachael was brilliant on him and all credit to Gordon and his team –the horse looked amazing coming down to us and we've done very little. It's more down to them than us."

Success was certainly no surprise to the trainer, for all that he had been a Quilixios admirer solely from afar prior to this month.

Bookmakers run for cover as brilliant Rachael Blackmore makes it six on the week

"We knew he jumped really well and obviously we'd seen him a good bit," he said. "He's just a lovely horse to do anything with. He's a gorgeous-looking horse with loads of size and scope. He'll be a lovely chaser in time, I'd say."

Despite that hint at an eventual career over fences, Quilixios is quoted at just 12-1 to take new stablemate Honeysuckle's Champion Hurdle by Betfair.

Future plans are undecided, and the trainer said: "He was very impressive there. We haven't had him long and we'll enjoy today and see what everyone would like to do."

They would surely all like another festival like this for their trainer, who reflected: "It's been an incredible week, it's stuff you dream about."

Forty years after his father Martin won his first Triumph with Baron Blakeney, David Pipe was far from downcast to finish second with Adagio.

"I'd normally never happily take second, but we'd have taken that before the race as it looked an above-average Triumph," the trainer said.

"He had colic not so long ago so to do that was fantastic. And remember, he came out of a claimer. We'll see how he comes out of this, but he's quite a tough horse and Aintree is the obvious place if he runs again. There will be lots more good days to have with him."
