Superstar stayer Kyprios continued his stellar season with a gritty win in the Prix du Cadran.

The six-year-old made his own running under Ryan Moore and, while momentarily pushed by the British-trained Trueshan and Coltrane, he kept pulling out more to win the race for the second time.

His last victory in 2022 saw him win by 20 lengths despite veering dramatically in the closing stages, but this time he put in a much more professional performance to score by two lengths.

It was an eighth Group 1 for Kyprios, who was at one stage touted for the Arc over a mile and a half, making him Aidan O'Brien's most successful horse at the highest level.

"He's very special," O'Brien said. "I'm so grateful to everyone involved with this horse. He has so much class and Ryan said he was going along in second gear just wanting someone to come and join him all of the time.

"He's incredible. Hopefully, if everything is well with him we'll head back to Ascot before giving him the winter off and come back for the Gold Cup next year with the two preps before it again.

"He's very unique to have the class he has and get the trips he gets, and with the mind he has. His mind hasn't just developed, that's the way he was as a two-year-old. We ran him in a Listed race at Newmarket as a juvenile and he just went asleep in the race. It's very unusual."

Kyprios was cut to 8-13 (from evens) by Betfair Sportsbook for the Long Distance Cup, a race he was beaten in by Trawlerman last year, on October 19. It would be his seventh race of the season after getting his campaign underway in May.

The Cadran completed a double for Moore and trainer O'Brien after the Illinois won the opening Prix Chaudenay. The pair will be represented by the joint-favourite Los Angeles in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday.
