Snowfall win gives Aidan O'Brien joint top spot in Classic history
Aidan O’Brien stands on the brink of becoming the most successful trainer in British Classics history after Snowfall’s annihilation of her rivals in the Cazoo Oaks drew him level on 40 wins with John Scott, who had been out on his own for 158 years.
Snowfall was O’Brien’s ninth triumph in the Oaks – five of which have been in the last seven years – to go alongside a record-breaking haul of ten 2,000 Guineas wins, seven in the 1,000 Guineas, six in the St Leger and eight successes in the Derby, which is also a record.
O’Brien’s dominance in the British Classics has been achieved since 1998, when King Of Kings landed the 2,000 Guineas, having succeeded Vincent O’Brien at Ballydoyle two years earlier. He can move out on his own should Bolshoi Ballet land the Cazoo Derby.
