On the day he announced he will be retiring, Sir Michael Stoute unleashed another classy prospect when Formal stormed to success in the 7f fillies' novice in the first half of a double for the training legend.

Stoute said on Tuesday he will stop training at the end of the year, but enjoyed his 20th winner of the campaign with the daughter of Dubawi's effortless victory. She had previously made a winning debut at Newbury in July.

The victory under Ryan Moore saw her cut to 20-1 (from 25) with Paddy Power for next year's 1,000 Guineas. She was also trimmed to 8-1 (from 14) with the same firm for the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on September 27, for which she is entered.

Formal is owned by Stoute's loyal allies Cheveley Park Stud, and they previously teamed up for Group 1 glory with her dam, Veracious. Other star horses they have enjoyed great wins with include 1,000 Guineas heroine Russian Rhythm, Medicean and Integral.

Cheveley Park's managing director Chris Richardson told Racing TV: "She was impressive and Ryan was very taken with her. It's appropriate on such a day she has won.

"Her class was certainly in evidence and there's much to look forward to. The list of great horses Sir Michael has trained for us is endless. Patricia [Thompson, Cheveley Park owner] was emotional when she found out this morning, but we hope this filly will give him more exciting days until the end of the year."

Stoute, Moore and Cheveley Park enjoyed a 14-1 double when Islanova struck in the 1m2f fillies' handicap. The trio also finished second with Archivist behind Starzintheireyes in the 7f novice for colts and geldlings.
