Trainer Grace Harris is once again enjoying a strong Flat campaign and praised the consistency of Savannah Smiles after she landed the 6f handicap.

The four-year-old filly has won five times in her career, but all four of her victories with Harris have come this year, while she has also finished second on three other occasions.

Harris believes a break from September 2023 to January is one of the reasons behind the daughter of Unfortunately proving quite the asset for the yard this term.

Harris said: "She was brilliant and it was a really good win – she's blossomed this year!

"We bought her last summer and she didn't really do an awful lot, so we gave her a break and she's come back a different horse. She's kept her form all the way through the all-weather and I thought I'd give her another go on the turf and she's never looked back."

The win for Savannah Smiles took Harris to 12 victories on the Flat this year, just one behind last season's tally, and the Monmouthshire-based trainer is looking forward to the jumps season.

Harris, who had six winners in that code last term, said: "We're having a good season. The jumpers are back in now so hopefully they can continue the form."

Up and running

Bracklesham Bay got off the mark at the fourth attempt for Jamie Osborne in the mile nursery.

The two-year-old, who was having his first outing since being gelded, finished a length clear of 4-5 favourite Bownder.
