'She's all speed' - Hugo Palmer's impressive debut winner books ticket to £150,000 race
Aubergine will be aimed at the £150,000 October sales race at Newmarket after overcoming a slow start to make a winning debut in the 5f novice.
Hugo Palmer has always rated the daughter of Mehmas highly but an injury meant her first start was delayed until September. It did not get off to the best start after she gave her rivals a length from the stalls but she made up ground under Jason Hart before sprinting clear to win by half a length.
Palmer, who could consider another race for experience ahead of her big target on October 6, said: "In the spring she was going really, really nicely and of our two early fillies she was going better than It Ain't Two, who is rated 95 now.
"She then chipped a knee and had to have surgery but she's come back and rewarded us. She's done well and she'll go to the sales race at Newmarket and we'll see where we get to. She didn't have a hard race there.
"She's all speed but unfortunately she's very much a two-year-old. We might look at a Listed race in France later on but we're pleased with her."
Treble lands
It was a good day for Callum Rodriguez, who had three winners. The Harry Charlton-trained odds-on favourite American Bay kicked off the treble in the 6f novice stakes before the jockey won on the Ed Bethell-trained pair Gressington and See That Storm in the 6f and 1m2f handicap respectively.
