'Shaun knows his stuff' - David Allan makes rare journey to Lingfield count
David Allan made a rare visit to the track a winning one when Secret Strength justified strong market support in the second division of the 7f handicap.
The Group 1-winning jockey last rode at the Surrey course in 2022, but struck on the Shaun Lycett-trained six-year-old by a length and a half. Having been as big as 9-1 in the morning, he won at 3-1.
"I've only been here a handful of times before as I usually don't venture this far," Allan told Sky Sports Racing. "Shaun knows his stuff as he said on the way up that he'll run his race if he had a pace to aim at. We knew we were going to finish strongly."
Lycett added: "I don't bet, but I love lining them up and have done for years. If you look back at his old form he was the best horse in the race if he could find that again.
"People latched on to the jockey booking too, but I said to David he was in great order and was fit as I could've had him."
Hart's happy new year
Jason Hart made it three winners from his last four rides with a rapid double on Jiff's Army in the second division of the mile maiden and Master Of My Fate in the 5f handicap.
Fine start
Tadreeb made the perfect start for new trainer Rod Millman with a third course-and-distance success in division one of the 7f handicap.
Back among the winners
Mike Murphy enjoyed his first winner back on a solo training licence with Further Measure in the 2m handicap.
