Shadow Of Light emulated his three-parts brother Earthlight by winning the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes in devastating fashion.

The Godolphin colt, sent off at 11-4, travelled powerfully on the quarters of 4-5 favourite Whistlejacket and when asked a question shot clear under William Buick.

There was a widening gap between the front two at the line as Shadow Of Light gave Godolphin their third Middle Park success, five years after their last with Earthlight.

Shadow Of Light, who was second to Cool Hoof Luke in the Gimcrack last month, was cut across the boards to a general 16-1 for the 2,000 Guineas following the four-length victory.

However, trainer Charlie Appleby believes speed is his greatest asset and will consider targets for next year over the winter.

"It's great for the team and nice to have a horse like him," the trainer said. "We'll put him away for the winter and see what everyone else is doing as to whether we look towards the Guineas or stick to the Commonwealth Cup programme.

"I'd say he's a Commonwealth Cup horse as there's a lot of speed on his page. I think he'll get stronger and they get quicker as they get stronger."
