Riding the highs and lows of jumping's ultimate rollercoaster
Cheltenham has become an incredibly hard place to win for all but a select few, but on a day the relentless Sire Du Berlais brought up JP McManus's sixth winner of this year's festival and Samcro took Michael O'Leary's tally of Grade 1 wins into three figures there was hope for the everyman in Lisnagar Oscar's stunning Stayers' Hurdle success.
In a display of nominative determinism, perhaps only rivalled by the third member of the jumping game's elite Rich Ricci, the seven members of the Racing For Fun syndicate enjoyed the happiest of days in Thursday's biggest race.
It was a fantastic result for smaller owners, with the Laois Limerick Syndicate cheering Ronald Pump into second and the Shanakiel Racing Syndicate behind Bacardys equally delighted in third. Never has the winners enclosure been so full of such happiness.
