Sea Chariot strikes for title-chasing Colin Keane to break long drought for John Murphy
Colin Keane continued his quest for a sixth Irish Flat jockeys' championship with a 106-1 treble from his four rides, including a first winner for trainer John Murphy since May on Sea Chariot in the mile handicap.
The four-year-old's length-and-a-quarter victory ended a 134-day drought for Murphy, stretching back toWhite Birch's Tattersalls Gold Cup triumph on Irish Guineas weekend at the Curragh. Sea Chariot was also just the second horse from the yard to win this year.
He capped a fine three-timer for Keane, who also scored on Martinelli in the other mile handicap for Kieran Cotter and on the Johnny Murtagh-trained Tangapour in the mile maiden.
"I came here with some nice rides but I thought if I got one I'd be doing well, so to get three is a bonus," Keane told Racing TV. "My agent is always busy on the phone and is on the ball. I'm getting on the best possible rides I can."
He added: "Sea Chariot doesn't have many miles on the clock. We weren't sure about the ground today, but when I gave him a chance he got into a nice rhythm. He didn't ride like a slow horse."
Keane failed in his bid for a four-timer when his final mount on the card, Market Timing, finished fourth behind 360,000gns purchase Get in the 1m3f fillies' maiden.
Welcome win
Group 1-winning trainer Tom Hogan enjoyed his first winner since August 2021 with Cast A Spell in the concluding 1m3f maiden.
