Sam's Gunner makes light of overnight drama to land EBF Final

Most of the drama in Sam's Gunner winning the final of the EBF series came the night before Will Kennedy struck late on the Mick Easterby-trained novice to deny the Williams family a famous victory with Dentley De Mee.

Fortune favoured the connections of Sam's Gunner as because it was a two-day meeting, farrier George Baker was staying in the hostel and was on hand to answer the call when the winner arrived off the box on Friday night with a shoe hanging off.

After the Cinderalla touch, Sam's Gunner, one of the youngest in the field, was the only one able to reel in Dentley De Mee, who travelled like the winner into the home straight and went down fighting when headed.
