Richard Kingscote is keeping busy this winter and he moved into double figures for the all-weather campaign after completing a brace, which kicked off when he steered the well-backed Marhaba Ghaiyyath to success for Charlie Johnston in division one of the mile maiden.

The 8-13 chance was building on his promising debut second at Wolverhampton when getting first run on market rival Circus Of Rome to hold on in the colours of Jaber Abdullah.

The winner could be seen out again this winter as part of a strong all-weather team for the Johnston yard.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to the winning owner, said: "Marhaba Ghaiyyath was a bit unlucky not to collect on his debut at Wolverhampton so it was nice that he got his head in front. Charlie thinks he's a nice type and it could well be that he runs again on the all-weather."

Derby-winning rider Kingscote doubled up when the well-backed Santorini Star powered home as 6-5 favourite in the 1m2f handicap for William Haggas.

Edwards' late call-up

Aspiring jockey Phoebe Edwards was only meant to be at Lingfield because she was leading up Newsreader in the mile handicap for Kevin Philippart de Foy. However, she got the call-up before racing to ride My Boy Jack in the opening 7f apprentice handicap after her Newmarket colleague Dominique van der Kraats had car problems on the way down.

The 19-year-old ended up having her first ride on the Kevin Frost-trained 9-1 chance and did well to bring her mount through late to finish second to Voltaic from a wide draw in the hands and heels contest.

Edwards told Sky Sports Racing: "I was going out for a run before racing when someone asked me if I had a licence as Dominique was not going to make it. It was an incredible experience to have my first ride at such short notice and the horse finished off his race very well."

Ryan nears another double century

Rossa Ryan broke the 200-winner barrier for the first time in 2023 and is closing on the landmark again after Bravo Zulu put him on 192 for the year when landing the mile handicap.
