Resurgent Victory March triumphant again for happy Spencer
Tuesday: Newcastle
Victory March maintained his irresistible form since his move to Britain and made it four wins from seven starts for Seb Spencer in the opening 1m4½f handicap.
Dale Swift restrained the five-year-old in last place before challenging three furlongs out, and his mount responded by powering away to score by six lengths from Isle Of Wolves.
Spencer said: “I don’t know if we’ve found the key to him, but he’s just improved so much since he came to us. He’s not really surprised us because we kind of knew he was a good horse.
"He has been working a lot better than he was, and we’ve got a good team at home who have ridden lots of winners, so we knew we had something to work with.”
Tuer time
Trainer Grant Tuer had a quickfire across-the-card double to take his tally to 40 wins for the year. Success at Southwell with Walking On Clouds was followed 15 minutes later by a stylish victory from Westmorian in the 6f handicap.
One to watch
The William Haggas-trained Brewing maintained his perfect record with a third win under Adam Farragher in the 7f handicap, holding on by three-quarters of a length from Beattie Is Back.
At the double
Paul Mulrennan enjoyed a double to reach a new career-best tally for the year. The jockey moved up to 108 winners for 2022 with success on Drakeholes and Herakles.
