Philip Rothwell and Tiernan Power Roche continue hot run of form with 942-1 double
Fresh from combining to land the Brown Lad at Naas with The Busy Fool last weekend, Philip Rothwell and 7lb claimer Tiernan Power Roche continued their fine form with a 942-1 double in the closing contests.
Rockymountainbleu seemed to have a tall order on his hands on his racecourse debut in the 2m4f maiden hurdle given he was up against the Willie Mullins-trained 2-5 hotpot Sounds Victorius, but he powered home in the straight to gallop four and a half lengths clear of the favourite at odds of 40-1.
Power Roche told Racing TV: "He had a good run in a point-to-point and his work at home has been good. We knew he'd be competitive but didn't know whether he needed the run but he did it well. It will sharpen him up a lot as he was looking for a bit of company."
In the closing 2m4f handicap Robindevidastar also belied a big price to land his third success when the 22-1 shot made virtually all under an astute ride, coming home a length and a half in front of Not My Problem.
Impressive Irancy
Irancy looked another smart novice hurdler for Willie Mullins when putting in a hugely taking display in the 2m maiden hurdle, darting nine lengths clear of Will The Wise.
The JP McManus-owned gelding was third behind Firefox and Ballyburn on his Irish debut in December and was introduced at 25-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle by Paddy Power.
