Perfect Sunset for Weston and Fuller as mare strikes for small yard
Admiral's Sunset coasted to victory to land a memorable win for the four-horse training operation of David Weston, who picked up his first success in 45 days.
The eight-year-old was ridden prominently by Page Fuller, who kicked for home two out in the 2m1f novice handicap chase, and the pair pulled clear for a comfortable eight-and-a-half-length win.
A gleeful Weston said: "She travelled really well today, jumped well and she's just believed in herself a bit more today.
"When she's at home she works with, and regularly beats, a 90-rated Flat horse on the gallops.
"We took her up to Andrew Nicholson, who lives in our village. He gave her some schooling and it's improved her confidence, and thankfully it all came together."
Dream start for Whillans
It was a dream start to training for Ewan Whillans as his first ever runner Cracking Destiny took the feature 2m3½f handicap chase, and he then doubled up with Callum Bewley in a surprise 50-1 success with Scots Poet.
Whillans could not have asked for better after taking over the licence from his father Alistair following Carlisle’s Wednesday meeting. His next runners could be at Musselburgh on Tuesday.
Brilliant British debut for McConville
Amateur jockey Daire McConville made a winning start to his career in Britain as he notched his first success on Orchard Grove.
Trained by Kerry Lee, the five-year-old got up to win in the shadows of the post to land the the 2m½f handicap hurdle.
"I swear I felt like I rode him as well," Lee said. "We went to Henrietta Knight's last week for schooling with Daire. There's a lot that goes into being the boss of a conditional!"
McConville joined the Herefordshire yard six weeks ago and is due to take his conditional jockey's course in October.
