Lucy Wadham works her magic as 'delicate' Telepathique wins again despite absence
Lucy Wadham's six-year-old mare Telepathique has now won her last two races. That they came more than 11 months apart and under different codes only adds to the quality of the training performance.
Tom Cannon sat motionless as the pair powered 11 lengths clear before the home turn. Telepathique was steadied over the last and not asked a question to maintain that advantage all the way to the line.
Wadham said: "I was very pleased. She's always schooled well for all she's been delicate to train, which is why you haven't seen her much. She handled the track and jumped very well bar the odd low one.
"She's qualified for the final now so we'll look to run in that in January. Between now and then I think we'll keep her in mares' company."
Bigger tests await Opec
James Owen is fast becoming a force with his juvenile hurdlers and has another potential black-type performer on his hands as Opec carried the famous Gredley Family silks to a second bloodless victory this season. Bigger tests await.
Owen said: "I was really pleased. Fakenham wouldn't be her track as she's much more of a galloping mare. It's great to have got some more experience into her, particularly after her fall on debut, and she jumped really well.
"I think we'll go for the Listed mares' novice hurdle at Newbury's Coral Gold Cup meeting."
Little bit of Magic
Miami Magic made light work of his hurdles debut on his first start for trainer Stuart Edmunds, running out a ten-length winner of the maiden. He could be above average.
