Kevin Philippart de Foy sets new target after surpassing last year's total
Wednesday: Lingfield
Kevin Philippart de Foy is eager to hit a half century of winners this season after he surpassed last year's total with Adelisa's easy success in the opening mile handicap.
The 4-9 shot obliged in faultless fashion to take De Foy to 31 victories this year, having saddled 30 winners in his first full season in 2021, and the Newmarket trainer believes another milestone can be achieved.
"With the horses we have this year, it was our target to try and beat that. It's a step in the right direction and we need to keep improving in the quality and going that way," he said.
"We've had a lot more seconds than we'd have liked. We're ambitious and think we can keep on doing better.
"It would be great if we could get to 50 winners or above. It's realistic and it would be lovely, but we take every race as they come. We want to get the best out of every single horse and keep ticking along."
De Foy could not double up in the other mile handicap on the card as Royal Aviation finished third behind Kaatibb.
Hat-trick heroine
Come On Girl made it a hat-trick of course-and-distance victories when running away with the 6f fillies' handicap.
The five-year-old had not won since scoring at the track on New Year's Eve in 2020, but bounced back to her best in first-time blinkers under Ray Dawson.
Party time
Party Island made it back-to-back course-and-distance wins with a stunning wide-margin success in the concluding 1m4f handicap.
