Jarvis in tears after traffic problems rob Lady Bowthorpe of first Group 1
William Jarvis shed tears of frustration after his flagbearer Lady Bowthorpe had come from an impossible position to grab fourth behind Snow Lantern in the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes.
Kieran Shoemark was stuck behind a wall of horses two and a half furlongs out before finally getting a run on the stands' side to be beaten just a length in Friday's Newmarket feature.
The Jarvis-trained five-year-old, who is helped at the start by stalls guru Steve 'Yarmy' Dyble, made the frame for the second time at Group 1 level but it could have been so much more according to connections.
Jarvis said: "Lady Bowthorpe was the best filly in the race and she deserves a Group 1, but Kieran said he had a wall of horses in front of him two out and just couldn't get out. She's an absolute star for us and would have won if it had been nine furlongs today."

Lady Bowthorpe could get an early opportunity for a rematch with the winner as Jarvis added: "I've always thought she would stay ten furlongs and we could go for something like the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood next. Hopefully she'll get the rub of the green there."
Lady Bowthorpe was the best-placed older filly in the race, with Snow Lantern followed home by fellow three-year-olds Mother Earth and Alcohol Free, who tried to make all.
Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Mother Earth, said: "We’re delighted with her run. I’m not too sure in terms of where next. There may be a fillies' race in France for her, but we’ll wait and see how she is. We’ll keep her to fillies' races. We could try her over further but she’s got plenty of speed.”
Oisin Murphy, Alcohol Free's rider, said: "I didn't really want to make the running but where I was drawn meant I had little choice. She's run a great race first time against the older fillies and I would think she'll stick at this trip."
