'I've seen it all now' - Middleham Park amazed as The Dragon King rules the Rowley Mile

Middleham Park racing manager Tim Palin was unusually lost for words after The Dragon King came from last to first under William Buick to give the operation their first win in the Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.

The 5-1 chance looked to be going nowhere at the Bushes after missing the break but came with a rare rattle down the unfavoured centre of the track to catch Brighton Boy and long-time leader Ruby's Profit.

Palin said: "I've seen it all now. I was working out what to tell the members at halfway when he was last and going nowhere as it was going to be a long day, but what a ride by William. When you see a horse come with that rattle, you know they're going to get there.

"We like to buy this type of horse from the Somerville sale. He was a sensible purchase and Tattersalls have looked after the owners well here today."

The Clive Cox-trained winner may not yet be done for the year, as Palin added: "I think there is a Group 2 race we can supplement him for, but we'll have to celebrate this first."

Buick later doubled up in the more familiar silks of Godolphin when Secret Theory landed the 7f maiden stakes on his debut for Charlie Appleby. The Dubawi colt knuckled down well to account for Spirit Of Summer.

Davies double

David Menuisier initiated a notable double for himself and Harry Davies when Ashariba made all the running to the land the opening 1m2f fillies' handicap.

Just seventy minutes before Tamfana landed the Sun Chariot Stakes, the 6-1 chance completed a hat-trick when plundering the spoils from the fast-finishing Treasure.

Davies kept things simple by going to the favoured far rail from his draw in stall three and pulled out more when challenged at the Bushes.

The winning trainer said: "Harry gave her a super ride and that was her last run of the season. She enjoyed the ground as she wants anything slower than good."

Davies followed up when Chorus carried the Fittocks Stud silks to similar prominence in the 1m4f fillies' handicap.

Chorus's owners Luca and Sara Cumani were not at the Rowley Mile as they were showing their latest yearling crop just up the road at Tattersalls, but winning trainer William Haggas said: "She's improved for this trip and I believe she'll stay in training to get some black type."

Little Nashwa

Nashwa may have missed out when finishing only fifth of six runners in the Sun Chariot Stakes but her half-brother Nebras stepped up to the plate by scoring on his debut in the mile maiden.

The son of Dubawi was welcomed back by his owner Imad Al Sagar after edging out Wild Nature and could have a bright future.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner, said: "John and Thady Gosden expected him to finish second or third, so he's surprised us a bit. Whether he runs again this year we don't yet know."
