'I’ve only been here five or six weeks' - Kim Bailey move pays off for conditional rider after riding first winner
Nathan Andrews’ decision to relocate to the Cotswolds paid off immediately as he secured his first career winner aboard Brendas Asking in the 2m conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle.
The Northern Irish-born rider survived a scare when the Kim Bailey-trained mare stumbled at the last before scoring by two lengths from the Alan King-trained Zodiac Star. His experience on the track consisted of 11 rides in Ireland before moving to Bailey’s yard.
“The last was a bit hairy but I got over it,” Andrews said after scoring from his first mount in Britain. “I spent two years with Gordon Elliott, he was very good to me. He gave me my first set of rides. There’s so many top-class jockeys in there and I’ve come over here for more opportunities.
“I’ve only been here five or six weeks and I’m delighted to get the first winner for Kim.”
King gained swift compensation in the following race when One Glance made a successful jumps debut in the 2m fillies' juvenile hurdle, while Bailey bookended the card when Court In A Storm landed the 2m bumper.
Renommee romp
La Renommee maintained her perfect record at the track with victory in the feature 3m handicap chase.
The six-year-old, who was sent off the 9-4 favourite, continued her progression over fences when backing up her success at Cheltenham in April with a fourth course win under Charlie Hammond.
She completed an across-the-card double for trainers Richard Newland and Jamie Insole alongside Strictly Tango’s win at Sedgefield.
