It's Moore's Guineas but the new normal will now impact Ballydoyle riding plans

We are living in the era of the new normal. How strangely reassuring, therefore, that in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas we witnessed a race in which the old normal once more reigned supreme.

As is generally the case, it was them again. More often than not, one or both of the Newmarket Classics are won by Aidan O'Brien, who duly won this one, as did Ryan Moore, 'the lads' and their most important of all lads, the mighty Galileo. Also maintained, thanks to Sue Magnier, was the fine tradition of a Coolmore Classic champion having a name worthy of her talent. How can you not love a filly called Love?

Here was the fourth Ballydoyle-trained and Galileo-sired 1,000 Guineas winner in the last five years. For Coolmore you can make that five winners in the last six years, given Legatissimo scored for David Wachman in 2015. Wichita may not have given O'Brien and his owners a fourth consecutive 2,000 Guineas triumph on Saturday but he came mighty close, only succumbing to Kameko's withering run well inside the final furlong.
