'It couldn't be going any better' - Freddie Gingell's remarkable run continues as he brings up his half-century
Freddie Gingell's remarkable run of form continued as he notched his 50th career winner on Ryder's Rock in a family affair in the 2m1f mares' handicap hurdle.
Trained by his uncle, Joe Tizzard, and owned by his grandad and former trainer Colin, the six-year-old bounced back to her best to give the conditional jockey a sixth winner from his last eight rides and his half-century.
Colin Tizzard told Sky Sports Racing: "Joe's gone on holiday, so someone's got to be here to put the tack on right! It was lovely with Fred riding it. It was a little race but really lovely, he got everything right.
"He lost his mum and that's never easy, even talking about it. He's got a job with Paul Nicholls and is progressing all the time. If he makes a mistake he's always putting it right, so it couldn't be going any better."
Gingell added: "She jumped the first and locked on a bit, and I didn't want her doing much early doors. Horses joined me for company, but she winged the last and won it nicely in the end. Grandad is over the moon."
Ryder's Rock was the second leg of a double for Joe Tizzard following Investment Manager's easy win in the 3m2½f handicap hurdle. The duo continued the trainer's own terrific form, with his last four runners all victorious.
Long wait over
David Noonan ended a run of 46 rides since his last winner at the track aboard Torrent in the 2m1f juvenile hurdle.
