In a week when dense fog kept clouding our eyes, under a belated blue sky in south county Dublin it was crystal clear for everyone to see that Galopin Des Champs is the greatest staying chaser of his generation.
He illuminated a golden day at Leopardstown with a second Savills Chase success that was every bit as impressive as his first. He didn't win by 23 lengths this time, but what he did do was put manners on a cocky whippersnapper who had threatened to rip up his reputation.
Fact To File was the emerging force, with younger legs and a John Durkan win under his belt but, just like a crunching Roy Keane tackle, he was brought back down to earth with a bang.
