Instant Gambler sealed a four-timer since switching to fences with a smooth success in the 3m2f handicap chase.

The Alex Dunn-trained eight-year-old has gained three of the four wins at Fontwell and scored by seven lengths under Adam Wedge.

Instant Gambler defied a 21lb higher mark than when successful on his first start over fences at this track almost seven weeks ago.

Dunn said: “He’s been brilliant and it’s lovely to watch him as he’s really enjoying his jumping. He came with experience from Irish point-to-points and has schooled plenty, with the team playing a big role. It’s been a fairytale and it’s brilliant for everyone involved.”

Dunn has already matched her seasonal tally of five jumps winners from last season, with 15 of her 46 runners finishing second, third or fourth.

She said: “It’s been a case of less is more. We have fewer horses but more quality this season, fewer owners but good owners and the staff have made a really concentrated effort, so everything has improved.”

In-form partnership

Jim and Suzi Best trained a third winner from their last six runners when Colours On Canvas justified support in the feature 2m3f handicap hurdle.

Sean Bowen’s mount was backed into 3-1 from morning odds of 12-1 and kept on stoutly for a half-length victory.

Double up

Ben Pauling enjoyed a double from five runners on the six-race card, with the Kielan Woods-ridden Golden Ambition winning the 2m5½f handicap hurdle and Samazul, the mount of Ben Jones, landing the 2m2f handicap chase.
