Inappropriate by name but not by nature. The winner of the first Ladbrokes Go North final was just the sort of horse the Racing Post-supported series was designed to encourage.
His last-to-first victory in the Grey Bomber Juvenile Hurdle showed that a 55,000gns buy off the Flat can land a decent prize in the north — and that a Yorkshire yard has the nous to pull off a plan even if things go wrong.
He is trained by Jedd O'Keeffe, who revealed: "It's been a real team effort to get him here. This has been the plan for a while. His first run was excellent, then we felt his subsequent two runs were ground-related and we needed to wait for better going, so this race was the obvious one.
"But we've had two scares. He stood on a nail with a hind foot and took a while to get over that. Then more recently he got cast and bashed a front leg and back leg.
"The vets and all the staff have been working so hard, he's been standing in buckets of ice for hours, and they've got him here. There was a worry for a time he wouldn't make it. It's worked out really well."
Inappropriate won an introductory hurdle at Newcastle first time out for O'Keeffe, who said: "It's marvellous he's run four times and won two £30,000 races.
"We only have 12 jumpers but we have some quite nice ones and I hope this series will encourage more people to have their horses trained in the north — it should do when there are nice prizes like this."
Rockola rolls up
Sending Sunday Soldier 338 miles north from Gloucestershire paid off for David Killahena and Graeme McPherson when she won last year's Lady Buttons final, so they did it again.
Rockola Vogue was the mare they ran this time. After she had landed the prize under Kielan Woods, joint-trainer Killahena said: "This was the one we were bringing this year, she's improved all season and she's a consistent type.
"It's a good pot to aim for, they put on good prize-money and they look after you."

'Brilliant ride'
Lucinda Russell's younger jockeys are likely to get opportunities due to the injury to Derek Fox, so it was perfect timing by 3lb claimer Alan Doyle to land the Sea Pigeon Hurdle final with a nicely judged ride on well-backed 15-2 shot Kingston James.
"It was a brilliant ride by Alan," the trainer said. "He had it all planned beforehand what he was going to do and when he jumped the second-last I thought there was no way he was going to get beaten.
"Kingston James definitely stays but I think dropping him back to two miles is the right thing for him round here because they need to be able to stay."
Doyle and Russell also took the mares’ bumper with Chanonry Point.
Grounds for delight
There was another good news story in the Racing Post Go North Handicap Hurdle as Summergrounds scored in the colours of the Multiple Sclerosis Borders Racing Club.
The club is the brainchild of former point-to-point rider and trainer Rhona Elliott, who said from her wheelchair: "This is our 20th season and our 27th winner.
"We've had two runners this season and two winners. It's raised a lot of awareness and a lot of money and helped a lot of people."
