Ben Haslam recorded his first Flat treble as Volenti completed a 112-1 three-timer for the North Yorkshire trainer, winning by half a length.

That success in the 1m handicap came after Haslam's Flying Scotsman bounced back in the 1m4½f handicap for JP McManus and Tickets secured a second win at the track in the 6f handicap.

The treble also means January was Haslam's best month on record with six winners at an impressive 46 per cent strike-rate.

"It doesn't happen every day so we're delighted," said Haslam. "We felt we had three live chances but luckily they all delivered. Everything just went right.

"I'm thrilled with how we've started the year. The last treble I had was at Newcastle over jumps so it's a good track for us. We've had trebles across the cards, but that's our first on the Flat.

"We'd been scratching our heads with Flying Scotsman, he'd been a hard horse to get right. The application of blinkers seemed to help and he's just a horse you have to catch at the right time.

"Tickets ran a great race under a lovely ride from Billy Loughnane, while Volenti has won here before and is testament to the team at home as he keeps producing."

Victory for Tickets also completed a double for Loughnane after he guided the Bryan Smart-trained Buzz Box to an impressive win in the 5f handicap.

Pears off the mark

Ollie Pears enjoyed his first winner of the season as Return With Gold landed the 1m2f handicap under Cam Hardie.
