'I'm super proud of her' - Mayhem Mya overcomes travel chaos and health scare to win for local trainer Chris Honour

Mayhem Mya's nightmare season, featuring disastrous trips to Scotland and France, took a turn for the better with a win at her local track for trainer Chris Honour.

The seven-year-old was pulled up at Kelso in October and was found with ringworm post-race, while an ambitious venture to Auteuil the following month didn't work out as she suffered a bacterial infection caused by stress.

She was nurtured back to full health by Honour and his team and bounced back to her best to upset odds-on favourite Into The Park in the 2m2½f handicap hurdle.

"I'm so delighted for her, the owners and the team at home," said Honour, who is based at Ashburton, just 13 miles from the track. "She came back from Kelso with ringworm, which we dealt with, then for Auteuil she was held in customs for five hours, kept in this barn in Chantilly by a road and got a bacterial infection on her skin because of the stress.

"She only really came back from it in the last ten days and then she's gone and done that – I'm super proud of her. This was just down the road, Bryan Carver did his thing and it's all gone perfect."

Gundry back

Polly Gundry trained her first winner since November 2023 when Don't Rightly Know made all in the 3m handicap chase.

The Devon trainer took a brief break after Cuzzicombe died and Great Colewood suffered a career-ending injury in the same race at Newton Abbot in June.

She was back with runners for softer ground last month and said of Don't Rightly Know: "We knew she'd improve for chasing and she has.

"It's good to have a winner, I've downed tools on summer racing and abandoned ship on a few things. It's my aim to train about eight or nine nice horses for good people and run on safe ground."
