'I'm lucky to be associated with the McManus family' - Jasmin De Grugy completes four-timer under Richie McLernon
Jasmin De Grugy completed a four-timer when making a perfect transition to fences in the 2m4½f handicap chase.
The Anthony Honeyball-trained five-year-old's last three wins came over hurdles, but he had no problem continuing that sequence on his chasing debut, jumping well and being pushed out to score by six lengths.
"When we had schooled him over fences he was a little bit sticky to start, but to be fair to Anthony and his team they've done a super job getting him jumping well and that's paid off today," winning rider Richie McLernon told Sky Sports Racing.
McLernon, who was riding his 195th winner for owner JP McManus in Britain, said: "I'm lucky to be associated with the McManus family, Frank [Berry], AP [McCoy] and everybody at Martinstown [Stud]. They do a super job with the horses."
He added: "This lad, having a summer break and coming back from Martinstown, makes my job easy because I know when they've had a little break that, with a bit of luck, they'll do well for themselves.
"I still love what I do. You cling on to the dream that you'll get a good horse and that keeps you going. If one popped up, that would be brilliant, but you just keep going and praying you're going to get one."
Ellis double
Lunar Contact notched a hat-trick when landing the closing 3m½f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle for trainer Tom Ellis, who was completing a double having earlier saddled Smurfette to victory in the 3m½f mares' handicap chase.
