'I'll take it as a present' - happy Father's Day for Mulholland in family outing

Neil Mulholland was able to celebrate a rare family day at the races with a winner thanks to Planned Paradise's victory in the 2m4f handicap chase.

The six-year-old made a shuddering error at the first fence, but was gathered up by jockey Sam Twiston-Davies and overhauled favourite La Domaniale after the last for a comfortable success.

Speaking of the family day out, Mulholland said: "It's very rare that the boys aren't playing football as they play a lot of it at the weekends, so it's very rare that we go racing as a family and it's obviously really nice – I'll take it as a present!"

Of the winner, he added: "He made a mistake at the first and it took him a while to settle into the race, but he jumped and travelled fine after that.

"He was a bit unfortunate on his first run over fences here, but today he made up for it."

Brilliant Bowen

Sean Bowen provided his own Father's Day gift to dad Peter with victory aboard 13-8 favourite Dalkingstown in the opening 2m7f handicap chase.

The sole runner on the card for both, victory took Bowen jnr two clear of Brian Hughes in the jump jockeys' championship, a position he owes to a fantastic 27 per cent strike-rate from 97 rides.

Feature success

The Alex Hales-trained Solo Saxophone readily fended off a host of challengers to make all the running in the feature 2m4f handicap hurdle under Kielan Woods.
