'I thought we might get there' - Dettori reflects on valiant Torquator Tasso run
Frankie Dettori believed Torquator Tasso might provide him with a record-extending seventh Arc victory as the race came to the crunch but the defending champion was narrowly denied by Alpinista and Vadeni.
The five-year-old, who won on similarly testing ground last year, was drawn wide in stall 18 but eased into contention on the outside and stayed on well to finish three-quarters of a length behind the winner Alpinista.
"He's such a good horse and he ran a super race," said Dettori. "It doesn't help [being on the outside] but that's his style of racing. You certainly have to cover a lot more ground on the outside. Between the 200 and 100-metre markers, I thought we might get there."
