'I think he could put up a sequence now' - Rwenearlytheredad rewards Declan Carroll's patience at Catterick
Rwenearlytheredad had made the frame in four consecutive starts prior to contesting the 7f handicap and built on that consistency to score his first victory since August last year.
The four-year-old provided some compensation for trainer Declan Carroll, whose odds-on favourite Fortunate Star had earlier finished third behind John Wainwright’s 28-1 shot Ninety Nine in the 5f handicap.
Fortunate Star’s rider Zac Wheatley did the honours on his stablemate, who beat Beltane by a length and a quarter.
Rwenearlytheredad's owner John Blackburn was in the winner’s enclosure for the track’s final Flat fixture of the season and told Racing TV: “Freddy Tylicki bought him and Declan’s always thought a lot of him.
“I said to Declan to sell him in February but I might change my mind. I think he could put up a sequence now.”
Blackburn enjoyed Royal Ascot success in June with Windsor Castle winner Ain’t Nobody. On the Kevin Ryan-trained juvenile, he said: “He stayed on in the Flying Childers at Doncaster. He’ll definitely want six furlongs next year.”
Super Spencer
Seb Spencer capped a superb season at the North Yorkshire venue when Crocodile Power justified 3-1 favouritism in the Class 6 6f handicap.
The Dale Swift-ridden winner was recording his third course-and-distance success in four starts and has been largely responsible for Spencer saddling five winners from just ten runners at the track this year.
D’Orsay delivers again
Count D'Orsay backed up victory at this track last time off a 2lb higher mark in the Class 4 6f handicap, his fourth win under Sean Kirrane since July.
