'I think a mile and a half will be her best trip' - Dermot Weld excited about Elizabeth Jane after commanding Trigo win
Elizabeth Jane justified strong support in the 1m2f Listed Trigo Stakes, with the 2-1 favourite putting in an authoritative display under Chris Hayes for Dermot Weld.
The Dubawi filly landed a maiden at the track on her debut 12 months ago in hugely impressive fashion and ran a cracker to finish fourth in the Irish Oaks in July before beating just one rival home in the Blandford Stakes last month.
Settled in mid-division by Hayes, she began to wear down her rivals at the furlong pole and charged to the line in commanding fashion to beat Layfayette by a length and three quarters and her trainer is excited about stepping her up in trip next year.
"Things didn't go right for her in the Blandford," Weld told Racing TV. "She's been working very well and I was reasonably confident she'd win today.
"I think a mile and a half will be her best trip. Group level [races] over that trip will be no problem for her next year."
Norwalk wreaks Havoc
Norwalk Havoc landed the first stakes win of his career as he powered to the line under Shane Foley in the Listed Bahrain Turf Club Knockaire Stakes for Jessica Harrington.
The three-year-old was unlucky on his last two starts in strong handicaps, finishing a neck runner-up in the Colm Quinn Mile at Galway before coming in ninth in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket when on the wrong side of the track.
He revelled in the testing conditions to justify 2-1 favouritism by charging three and a half lengths clear of Uncanny.
