I Shut That D'Or bounces back to form to kickstart 71-1 double for Joe Tizzard
Joe Tizzard's terrific season at the track continued with a 71-1 double, including when I Shut That D'Or bounced back to his best in the 2m3½f novice handicap chase.
The six-year-old had failed to win in ten starts since scoring at Wincanton in January 2023, but scored by a length and a half under Brendan Powell. Tizzard and Powell doubled up with Non Stop in the 2m handicap hurdle and they took the trainer's strike-rate at the track this term to 50 per cent.
After I Shut That D'Or's win, Powell told Sky Sports Racing: "Tom Cannon won on him at Wincanton but life's just been a little bit difficult for him since – he's very hit and miss.
"I've only ridden him a handful of times on the track but sat on him plenty at home and didn't think he was without a chance. Joe's found the right race for him."
On Non Stop, he added: "You wouldn't think he's bred for a short trip. He actually ended up jumping fences nearly better than hurdles. This was his first run since January but he had the turn of foot and that bodes well for the future."
Powell received a two-day suspension for careless riding after the stewards deemed him to have caused interference leaving the back straight.
More Skelton success
Dan Skelton's fine form continued with Sacre Coeur's front-running win in the 3m1½f handicap chase.
The eight-year-old ran out a 20-length winner following odds-on favourite Scamallach Liath's fall at the second-last fence, and took Skelton's strike-rate to 29 per cent in the last fortnight.
