'I hold her in high regard' - another smart juvenile hurdle winner for James Owen as Ambiente Amigo shows her speed
James Owen enjoyed a third juvenile hurdle winner in five days when Ambiente Amigo swept to success under Sam Twiston-Davies.
Owen is becoming an expert at getting decent Flat horses to transfer their talents to hurdling, as he proved with East India Dock at Wincanton on Sunday and Opec at Fakenham on Wednesday.
Both of those were easy winners for the Gredley Family and Ambiente Amigo, who is rated 95 on the Flat, was another in the 2m1f opener. She jumped scrappily at times but showed her class by accelerating after the last to win by six and a half lengths from Fine Point.
Owen, who saddled Wimbledon Hawkeye to finish third in Saturday's Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster, said: "She's a lovely filly and did well on the Flat. I hold her in high regard and she did it the right way while learning on the job.
"We'll probably go for something low key with her next time but we'll assess our options. We have a few juveniles who have won and are going down a similar route but it's a nice problem to have."
Owen will bid for another winner in the division when Liam Swagger lines up for the Listed juvenile hurdle at Wetherby on Friday.
Sayva supreme
Bumper winner Sayva opened his account over hurdles with a flawless all-the-way success in the 2m1f maiden contest under Richie McLernon. It was the jockey's sole ride of the day and the four-year-old looks a useful type for Jonjo and AJ O'Neill.
