Another exciting sprinter for David Evans as 240,000gns Breeze Easy bolts up
David Evans was left pleasantly surprised after Breeze Easy went a small way towards justifying her 240,000gns purchase at the breeze-up sales for long-standing owner Chris Kiely.
The pair, who enjoyed Royal Ascot success with Rohaan in June, have had to be patient with the two-year-old after she failed to hit the frame in her first three starts.
Ridden by Clifford Lee for the first time, the well-backed filly lived up to her name, breezing to the front as she liked from a furlong out to land the 6f novice by three and a half lengths.
Evans said: "I didn’t think she’d win like that. She did it really well. The first time she ran a little bit disappointingly, the second time she ran better and she ran really well last time. I thought six furlongs would suit her today."
He said: "It’s just nice to get the win after what she cost. She’s progressive and she’ll improve again. If she gets the right offer she might even be gone."
The win completed a double for Lee, who had already taken the opening 1m1f handicap aboard the Karl Burke-trained Alyara.
Also enjoying doubles were Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning, who combined to land the 6f handicap with Bowman and the 1m1f handicap with Forest Falcon.
Welcome winner
Lawrence Mullaney enjoyed a first winner in 230 days and only a second of the year as Royal Prospect finally got his head in front on his tenth start for the Yorkshire-based trainer.
Callum Rodriguez was the seventh different jockey to ride the six-year-old since he switched from Julie Camacho’s yard in April and they just held on to score by a neck in the 7f handicap.
